Cookie Policy
About this policy
This policy explains how TechLives uses cookies and similar technologies, in accordance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), the guidance of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). We only set non-essential cookies with your consent. The actual cookies you see may also depend on your browser and on any tools we add in the future.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work, remember your basket and session, improve the experience and - with consent - measure how a site is used.
Cookies we set
At the time of this update, the site only sets strictly necessary cookies, created by WordPress and WooCommerce to make the shop work: basket contents, session and checkout state, security/anti-fraud tokens, and a cookie that remembers your cookie choice. These are required for the site to function and do not need consent. Their lifetime typically ranges from the end of your session up to around 2 days, with security tokens lasting up to roughly 14 days.
Statistics and marketing cookies
With your consent, we use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel for marketing. It helps us measure the effectiveness of our advertising by registering page views, product views, add-to-basket events, checkout starts and purchases, and it sets cookies such as _fbp and _fbc (typically lasting up to 3 months). The pixel - including the underlying script from Meta - is only loaded after you have actively allowed marketing cookies in our banner; if you reject, no marketing scripts are loaded at all. Our visitor statistics are collected by a self-hosted, cookie-free analytics tool that sets no cookies and does not identify you, so it requires no consent. If we add further statistics or marketing tools (for example Google Ads conversion tracking), they will equally only run with your consent, and this policy will be updated.
Third-party requests
Some pages load resources from third parties, which means these providers may receive your IP address and basic technical data, even though these are not "cookies" in the strict sense: Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) for typography, and randomuser.me, which serves the illustrative avatar images shown alongside customer quotes in our review sections. Only after you have allowed marketing cookies, resources from Meta (connect.facebook.net / facebook.com) are also loaded for the Meta Pixel described above. Apart from that pixel, these resources are used to display the site, not to track you.
How consent works
Non-essential cookies are not set until you have actively given consent, as required by PECR and ICO guidance. Our banner offers equally clear choices - "Allow all", "Allow selected" and "Reject" - with per-category switches for preferences, statistics and marketing. It sets nothing beyond strictly necessary cookies until you choose, and you can change your mind at any time by clearing the ts_cc cookie in your browser (the banner will then appear again).
How to manage cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or browse privately. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent the basket and checkout from working. Most browsers explain how to manage cookies in their help pages.
Legal basis and your rights
Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement; any statistics or marketing cookies are only set with your consent. Under the UK GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, and you can withdraw consent at any time - contact contact@techlives.co.uk.
